AAA: Midwest, Kansas average gas price up slightly

The nationwide average price of self-serve regular gasoline has increased 1.5 cents a gallon since mid-July, from $1.39 to $1.405 per gallon, according to the American Automobile Association.
In the Midwest, including Kansas, gasoline prices are up 3.3 cents to $1.414, the motoring association says.
In contrast to the last two summers when fuel prices fluctuated wildly and reached record highs, AAA said the nationwide average gasoline price stabilized near $1.40 a gallon last April and has stayed there.
July prices have been relatively stable, the AAA says.
On July 16, 2001, the nationwide average was $1.38 a gallon. Last month, the average price was $1.39, AAA said.
The third-smallest increase was in the Southeast, where average gas prices are up .9 cents a gallon to $1.32, from mid-July last year to mid-July this year.
The second-smallest increase was .4 cents a gallon in the Great Lakes to $1.41, while the increase in the Southwest was .2 cents higher a gallon to $1.36.
Posting larger increases, since mid-July, AAA said prices increased an average of 5 cents a gallon in New England to $1.44.
Prices in the Mid-Atlantic region are up 2.6 cents to $1.41. Western gasoline prices increased 1.4 cents to $1.53 since mid-July.
